Waterman At Work Video and Media Player Information Waterman At Work

Video Files

There are three types of video files on the WatermanAtWork website; WMV(Windows Media Video), MPEG(compressed video for the internet) and FLV(Flash Video). The MPEG videos have the best quality but are larger file sizes so they take longer to play and download. The WMV files have pretty good quality and the file size is smaller so they are quicker to play and download. The FLV files, or "flash" videos will play in the internet browser. These flash videos can be pretty long; if you have a slow internet connection, the videos may be a little choppy until the entire video is downloaded into your temporary internet files cache. The quality of the FLV videos is a bit lower than the MPEG or WMV files, but the flash videos are much longer.

Video Players

The Windows Media Player that comes with Microsoft operating systems will play the WMV and MPEG videos. The latest version is Windows Media Player 12 that comes with Windows 7. If you have an older system, you might want to use an earlier version that uses less computer resources. Click HERE to go to the Microsoft Windows Media Player page and get the player you need.

Another great media player is the VLC Player, or Video LAN. The VLC Player can play just about any video file. It has tons of audio and video options and is easy to use. The VLC Player is a good choice for playing the FLV video files after you've downloaded them from the website. The VLC Player is free, you can get it HERE.

You may have to go to the File Association menu and select the file types you want each media player to play. Usually you can find this menu in the Folder Options or Control Panel of your computer. Sometimes you can set these file associations through the "Preferences" or "Options" menu of the media player. If you have the VLC Player and Windows Media Player installed, set the VLC Player to play the FLV files and let Windows Media PLayer play everything else. Windows Media Player does not play FLV files. In order for the FLV videos to play in your internet browser, you'll need the Adobe Flash Player. It's free, you can get it HERE.

Downloading Videos

You can download any of the videos on the WatermanAtWork website and save them on your computer hard drive. Downloading the MPEG and WMV files is very simple; right click on the video link, select "Save Link As" in Firefox or "Save Target As" in Internet Explorer, select a folder on your computer to save the video in and click "Save".
To download the FLV files you will need additional software. If you are using Firefox as your internet browser, which we strongly recommend, there is a handy little plugin called Video Download Helper. It is a Firefox add-on that integrates into the browser. It is easy to use and works great for downloading flash video from the internet. Video Download Helper is free, you can get it HERE. If your internet browser is Microsoft Internet Explorer, you will need a standalone program to download FLV videos. There are a number of video downloaders available, we've found that the Orbit Downloader is the best of the bunch. It's pretty easy to use and does a good job of downloading videos. The Orbit Downloader is free, you can get it HERE.
