The wind was calm but it was overcast as we launched the kayaks at Rowena, Oregon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/OvercastMorning8-26-13.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/OvercastMorning8-26-13.jpg\" title=\"Overcast morning on the Columbia River\" alt=\"Overcast morning on the Columbia River\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3506\" srcset=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/OvercastMorning8-26-13.jpg 600w, https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/OvercastMorning8-26-13-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The fishing conditions were pretty much the same as they were a few days ago; low water levels, seaweed and the bass holding in 8-10&#8242; of water, maybe a little deeper. We only caught a couple bass, but they were good sized fish. One was a really good size fish, probably 18-19&#8243; or so, the other was a bit smaller.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/SmallmouthBass8-26-13.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/SmallmouthBass8-26-13.jpg\" title=\"Columbia River Smallmouth Bass\" alt=\"Columbia River Smallmouth Bass\" width=\"467\" height=\"600\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3507\" srcset=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/SmallmouthBass8-26-13.jpg 467w, https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/SmallmouthBass8-26-13-233x300.jpg 233w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 467px) 100vw, 467px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It rained intermittently while we were fishing, nothing too heavy and by the time we headed in, it had turned out to be a pretty nice afternoon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/NiceAfternoon8-26-13.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/NiceAfternoon8-26-13.jpg\" title=\"Nice afternoon on the Columbia River\" alt=\"Nice afternoon on the Columbia River\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3508\" srcset=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/NiceAfternoon8-26-13.jpg 600w, https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/NiceAfternoon8-26-13-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The next day, we headed east to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.parks.wa.gov\/parks\/?selectedpark=Maryhill\" target=\"_blank\">Maryhill State Park<\/a> in Washington, across the Columbia River from Biggs Junction, Oregon. This is an area well known for great smallmouth bass fishing, we were hoping to have a little more success than we&#8217;d been having closer to home. We got out on the river just before sunrise.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DawnAtMaryhill8-27-13.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DawnAtMaryhill8-27-13.jpg\" title=\"Dawn at Maryhill State Park\" alt=\"Dawn at Maryhill State Park\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3509\" srcset=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DawnAtMaryhill8-27-13.jpg 600w, https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DawnAtMaryhill8-27-13-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was windier than we had been expecting, and like at Rowena, the water was choked with seaweed. To make matters worse, the fish were not biting. Usually, we catch something, but not today.
