<\/p>\nWe are kayak fishing for largemouth bass on Mittry Lake. There are other places to fish, but for kayak fishing, Mittry Lake is a great place. Sometimes the fishing can be really terrible for days at a time. Then again, there are the great fish caught on the “one last cast” and the big fish caught 20 yards off the launch ramp after fishing all day without a nibble. There are some good days and big fish to be had as well, that’s the mystery of Mittry Lake. Anybody will tell you, it is a challenging place to fish. There’s more. Even though Mitty Lake is very close to Yuma, Arizona and is heavily used, the natural beauty is incredible, especially for the middle of the desert.<\/p>\n

Some of the mornings and early afternoons have been overcast. Not a bad thing to get a break from the blazing sun. 70\u00b0 and light overcast is quite pleasant.<\/p>\n

The wildlife is very active in the morning, especially as it warms up as spring approaches. Birds are everywhere, beavers coming over to check you out and the last kayak trip I saw a wildcat as I was getting a snag loose in the reeds close to shore. Only about twenty feet away, pretty cool.<\/p>\n
It’s nice the scenery and the weather are nice because there have been some slow fishing days. Then again, there have been some great fishing days. Typical Mittry Lake.<\/p>\n

There have been a few windy days with weather fronts moving through the area. There was even a light rain day. The wind is the big weather factor. There have been days of 20-25mph wind with stronger gusts. Not many places to hide in the wide open desert.<\/p>\n

When the fishing is tough, we use the kayaks to our advantage to look for fish in every nook and cranny of the lake. Mittry Lake is surrounded by reeds, many of which are on floating islands that the big fish live under.<\/p>\n

The fishing has been in very close quarters with fish being caught in shallow water and and very near or under the floating reeds.<\/p>\n

The big thing is finding where the hungry fish are. If you put your lure in the right spot, there are nice fish to be caught.<\/p>\n

It was kind of a slow start, but the last day of the fishing trip was probably the best day. Caught five or six really nice fish with a few near misses and a couple fish lost due to fooling around with camera gear, so there was pretty good action. Nice to end the trip on a high note.<\/p>\n

We are in town for a few hours to make the blog posts, pick up a new fishing reel and pack in supplies for another kayak fishing adventure. It seems like the fishing is picking up, so we can’t wait to get back out on the water. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
