<\/p>\nThe scarcity of blog posts is due to our time spent kayak fishing for largemouth bass on the Colorado River. There have been a few slow days, some average days and some great fishing days on the river. The Colorado is a large river with plenty of fish and plenty of places for the fish to hide. We are starting to get the hang of fishing here and the number and size of the largemouth bass we are catching is starting to get bigger.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
There are a few places to launch, thanks to the portability of the fishing kayaks. Some of the launches are more of a challenge than others, this one is pretty nice. It’s a popular spot and can get a bit crowded at times, especially on weekends.<\/p>\n

It’s starting to get hot as summer approaches, so we try to get out on the water as early as possible. We’ve had success fishing for largemouth bass at night, but the fish don’t seem to be very active at night around here so we are usually out and fishing about an hour before sunrise. Getting on it early has been paying off most of the time.<\/p>\n

The bass fishing on the Colorado River can be good most of the day, seems like it slows down during the hottest part of the afternoon. The mornings in the desert are just about perfect; calm wind, cool and big fish willing to bite.<\/p>\n

As I mentioned, it is starting to get hot here in the Arizona desert. The past few days have been in the mid nineties, pretty hot to be sitting on a kayak with no shade. The nights are only in the mid sixties, so it doesn’t cool off all that much. Cloudy and overcast days are a welcome sight because they provide a break from the scorching desert sun.<\/p>\n

Wide brim hats, long light colored clothing and sunscreen are mandatory for fishing in the middle of the desert. It’s worth the effort because there are big largemouth bass waiting to bite.<\/p>\n

Every day we go fishing, we learn more about the desert, the Colorado River and the fish that are in it. The more we learn, the better our chances are of catching more and bigger fish. I’ve been pretty lucky to land a few really big largemouth bass. It makes me want to go fishing more and more.<\/p>\n
I have this gallery of selfies with fish because those are the only “trophies” there are from all the excellent fishing. We do have some good kayak fishing videos, those will be coming up shortly, but all the fish we catch have their picture taken and are released to fight another day.<\/p>\n

Largemouth bass are not the only fish in the Colorado River, many species of fish call the river “home”. While fishing for bass one evening, I got a big hit and knew I had a big fish on the line. With visions of state record largemouth bass dancing in my head, I got the fish to the kayak to find it was a chunky channel catfish.<\/p>\n

It’s very hot during the daytime, especially between noon and early evening, but the mornings, nights and evenings are just about perfect. There are a few mosquitoes that keep it from being totally perfect, but it’s still pretty nice.<\/p>\n

We’re in town using the internet and stocking up on supplies, but we will be heading back to the Colorado River for more kayak fishing. Looks like a good few days coming up so we are anxious to get back out there after the great fishing we’ve been having.
