Our kayak fishing adventure on the lower Colorado River is coming to an end and we are fighting hot and windy weather to get out on the water as much as we can before it’s all over. It’s a race against time and the approaching sweltering summer desert heat. The kayak fishing for largemouth bass has been very good at the usual fishing spots, only kept off the water by the hot desert wind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We like to get out on the water early, the increasing daytime temperatures make that an almost mandatory procedure. By the time the morning sun peeks over the desert hills, it can already be 75\u00b0F on the way to 100\u00b0F. The early morning hours are also most likely to have the calmest wind of the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are endless backwaters and hidden bays that can hold largemouth bass. Some of the areas are not easily accessible by boat, but a kayak has no problem getting to the most remote spots on the river.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The largemouth bass fishing early in the mornings has been good just about everywhere. Mild temperatures and calm winds make for ideal kayak fishing conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Same time, out on the river before sunrise, different spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The early morning fishing has been good to us on the Colorado River. In some spots, the fish don’t bite at night. Sometimes, the fishing slows down as the sun comes up. The early morning hours are the best chance to land a big largemouth bass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s a race against the rising sun for prime largemouth bass kayak fishing conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We always seem to be able to pick off a nice bass or two on the paddle back to the launch beach. Clean living I reckon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The night fishing at some spots has been very good. When it hits about 9:30 or 10:00AM, the fishing really slows down and it starts to get hot. If the best fishing is at night, you go fishing at night if you want to catch fish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We sacrificed some blood to the hungry mosquitoes but caught some really nice Colorado River largemouth bass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s a good feeling to see the sun coming up and prime fishing conditions for the next couple hours when you already have one or two nice fish on the tab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The largemouth bass came out to play before sunrise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some days the fishing is really good and you can catch them all day long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No matter what time of day or night it is, as long as you have a line in the water, you have a chance to catch a nice largemouth bass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’re headed back out into the desert for our last chance at Colorado River largemouth bass before we head back to the PacNW where there has been a lot of bad news for fishermen and people who spend a lot of time outdoors, which is just about everybody.
