It&#8217;s been very hot here in the desert southwest. Nearly 100\u00b0F almost every day, 75\u00b0 at night. This is after a summer where it was over 110\u00b0 every day for more than a month.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/DesertSunrise10-1-23.jpg\" alt=\"Desert sunrise\" class=\"wp-image-7523\" srcset=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/DesertSunrise10-1-23.jpg 600w, https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/DesertSunrise10-1-23-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The water levels of the lower Colorado River are, once again, about as low as they can go. Almost all the river water is siphoned off by the time it gets here. In many places, you can walk across the mighty Colorado River. In the photo below, the kayak is beached at a spot that is normally four feet or more underwater.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/CORiver10-10-23.jpg\" alt=\"Colorado River low water\" class=\"wp-image-7524\" srcset=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/CORiver10-10-23.jpg 600w, https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/CORiver10-10-23-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Of course, there is always the desert wind that pretty much determines when, and where, we go kayak fishing. The fish are not biting at night, so that leaves from about sunrise to around late morning when the wind quickly picks up.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/CORiver10-9-23.jpg\" alt=\"Glassy Colorado River\" class=\"wp-image-7525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/CORiver10-9-23.jpg 600w, https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/CORiver10-9-23-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>We had to do a lot of looking around because the fishing has not been that good at the &#8220;brand name&#8221; spots. When the fish aren&#8217;t biting at the places you normally would expect them to, you have to look where you don&#8217;t expect to find them.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"336\" src=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/NiceJumpingBass10-2-23.gif\" alt=\"Kayak fishing for largemouth bass with watermanatwork.com\" class=\"wp-image-7528\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>There was a bit of a change in the desert landscape as a few clouds came drifting through.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/CORiver10-2-23.jpg\" alt=\"Colorado River\" class=\"wp-image-7529\" srcset=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/CORiver10-2-23.jpg 600w, https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/CORiver10-2-23-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>A few clouds had no effect on the blazing desert heat and didn&#8217;t have any effect on the fishing, which has been pretty tough. We managed to pick off a few here and there before the wind and heat put an end to the kayak fishing day.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"336\" src=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/NiceJumpingFishSpitsHook10-2-23_2.gif\" alt=\"Kayak fishing for largemouth bass with watermanatwork.com\" class=\"wp-image-7530\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Yesterday was a pretty good day. Nothing before sunrise, a couple small fish just as it was getting light, and then I hit the jackpot.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"336\" src=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/NiceJumpingBass10-10-23_2.gif\" alt=\"Kayak fishing for largemouth bass with watermanatwork.com\" class=\"wp-image-7531\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>A couple jumps later, this nice bass was in the kayak.
