Not too long ago, we showed you how to modify 5″ plastic grubs<\/a><\/strong> to make them bigger and more attractive to big largemouth bass(and smaller ones too). In the era of shrinkflation, we here at watermanatwork.com<\/a><\/strong> are showing you how to go big for free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This blog post tells you how<\/a><\/strong> to do a bit of surgery on standard issue 5″ plastic grubs to make them a bit longer. It’s easy to do. In the photo below, I’m doing grub surgery in the desert with just a utility knife and propane burner.<\/p>\n\n\n

We’re adding this post to show you how to use the modified grubs. You’ll see that an extra half inch makes a big difference. In the watermanatwork.com<\/a><\/strong> tradition, we don’t want to spend any money doing this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For largemouth bass fishing, we like to use a 2\/0 or 3\/0 hook. That’s a big hook for freshwater fishing but largemouth bass, well, they have large mouths. If the lure and hook are too small, the bass will inhale and swallow them and you’ll kill a bunch of fish. If you want to catch big fish, you need to use a big lure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have plenty of 2\/0 and 3\/0 worm hooks that we use with plastic worms. We used to use them all the time until, for some reason, the fish seemed to stop biting them. A 2\/0 or 3\/0 worm hook works fine with the modified grub, either in a weedless or bare hook setup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, we started using wide gap worm hooks for the modified grub weedless setup. These wide gap hooks seem to not twist thin monofilament fishing line as much as a standard worm hook.<\/p>\n\n\n
