Every day of great fishing is important now because the trend is defintely less days like this. We&#8217;ve really been lucky here because this place is not known for its great bass fishing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s been a poor winter fishing season in the desert southwest. It&#8217;s not a matter of if the fishing was good or bad, there was no fishing at all for months. Our time here is running out and we haven&#8217;t been fishing much at all. Even though the fishing hasn&#8217;t been very good, we were out there before the crack of dawn on the first calm day.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" src=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/CORiverDawn4-4-24.jpg\" alt=\"CO River dawn\" class=\"wp-image-7762\" srcset=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/CORiverDawn4-4-24.jpg 700w, https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/CORiverDawn4-4-24-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>We were stoked to discover that the fishing was much better than a few days ago. Starting the fishing day with a big largemouth bass is the best way to get things going.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/CORiverLMB4-3-24.jpg\" alt=\"Colorado River largemouth bass caught by watermanatwork.com kayak fisherman Ron Barbish\" class=\"wp-image-7763\" srcset=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/CORiverLMB4-3-24.jpg 600w, https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/CORiverLMB4-3-24-300x250.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The first day of fishing, we didn&#8217;t catch a lot of largemouth bass, but the fish we did catch were bigger than average for this spot.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/BigJumpingBass4-2-24_1.gif\" alt=\"Kayak fishing for largemouth bass with watermanatwork.com\" class=\"wp-image-7775\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>We caught a number of hard fighting largemouth bass that morning. There were some great kayak fishing battles and I managed to get a lot of them on video with good lighting. That almost never happens.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/BigJumpingBass4-2-24_3.gif\" alt=\"Kayak fishing for largemouth bass with watermanatwork.com\" class=\"wp-image-7776\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/modified-grubs-big-bass\/\">modified plastic grubs<\/a><\/strong> we were using looked just like the small shad the big largemouth bass were eating, which is nice.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/BigJumpingBass4-2-24_4.gif\" alt=\"Kayak fishing for largemouth bass with watermanatwork.com\" class=\"wp-image-7777\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>A calm day, unseasonably cool, but comfortable for the normally hot desert and the fishing was good. The fishing had not been this good in months and we were giving it a full effort.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/JumpingBass4-4-24.gif\" alt=\"Kayak fishing for largemouth bass with watermanatwork.com\" class=\"wp-image-7780\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>I probably caught the five biggest fish of the entire winter fishing season in this three day span of fishing.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/CORiverLMB4-4-24.jpg\" alt=\"Colorado River largemouth bass caught by watermanatwork.com kayak fisherman Ron Barbish\" class=\"wp-image-7781\" srcset=\"https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/CORiverLMB4-4-24.jpg 600w, https:\/\/watermanatwork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/CORiverLMB4-4-24-300x250.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The last day before the desert wind came up and put and end to a great stretch of kayak fishing, the conditions were perfect once again.
