Long Ride On The Backroads

Nice sunny day today, off through the woods headed toward the county backroads. Started off with a little singletrack through the local forest

Sun And Shadows

Exiting the woods, I headed out towards Mosier, OR on county backroads. A county road is a little different around here than most county roads in the United States; many of them are not paved, some don’t receive maintenance for years at a time. There is going to be a “Cycling Cross Mountain” Gran Fondo over the roads in the photo below, we’ll see how that goes.

Backroad To Mosier

These backroads have great scenery, but the road itself can be rocky, gravelly, sandy and rutted; you have to pay attention to what you’re doing

I took a side trip down one of the many abandoned logging roads and came upon a pretty nice view. Over the nearest hills is the Hood River Valley and the Columbia River. A little farther out are the mountains of Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Way out there is snowcapped Mt. Adams.

Looking North Towards Mt. Adams

Another detour led to this nice unnamed singletrack that clearly doesn’t get much use. I didn’t see too much of it; I was alone and didn’t have my GPS, not smart to take too many chances in that situation. We’ll be back to check it out later.

Headed south all day, turn around and head back north, the road home had Mt. Adams in the distance

Think we’ll be headed over to Washington tomorrow.
