Awesome Autumn Day

This may have been the last really nice day of the year, but it sure was a beautiful day. We’ve had ice on the windshields for the past couple nights, that usually means we won’t be seeing a seventy degree day until next July. Today was pretty close; in the high 60’s, but when it’s in the low 30’s at night, the days are going to be cool.
Still, the sun was out, not a cloud in the sky and the trails were in perfect condition.

Sunny Singletrack

When the trail heads into the woods, it gets dark quick. The sun is hanging lower and lower in the sky and the shadows are long and dark.

Into The Woods

When you pop out into the open, it is sunny and warm.

Awesome Fall Riding

The sun barely shines through the forest canopy but it makes a heck of a light show.

Autumn Sun

This time of year; the end of summer and the beginning of winter is a special, but limited time. The wild mushrooms are coming out. You may have read a little about this in previous blog posts, but for a short time, it is prime time for mushroom hunters. At the end of each ride we slowly cruise through our prime mushroom hunting zones looking for those tasty shrooms. Today was one of the best days. I came across a patch of mushrooms that was the largest I’ve ever seen. I got a quarter pound of wild mushrooms in one square foot. There were some big ones out as well, some as long as nine inches long.

Mushroom Motherlode

Tonight, there will be chicken breasts, sautéed wild mushrooms and mozzarella cheese on whole wheat sandwiches, five star dining for some folks.
