Winter Sports Time

The bicycles and fishing gear are stowed away for a little while due to the onset of heavy duty winter weather. It has been snowing fairly heavily and unusually cold. Despite the 20 degree weather, I had to get outside and go for a couple mile hike in the local forest.

Snowy Trail 11-24-10

There was between six inches and a foot of snow on the ground. The trails are slippery and trudging through the deep snow has got me thinking about a pair of snowshoes. We’ll be hitting the backcountry soon and I have to get in shape; walking in snowshoes uses different muscles than cycling so it’s time to get going now that there is plenty of snow.

Cold Snowy Trail 11-24-10

The woods are dark and cold, the snow covered trees blocking out the sun. The sun is low in the sky this time of year and the days are getting shorter and shorter.

Dark Winter Trail 11-24-10

We’ll be getting into the preparation and training for backcountry snow action and started posting cycling gear reviews on the WatermanAtWork website.
