Another unbelievably nice winter day here in the Pacific Northwest, so outside we go. Got the 2011 kayak fishing season off to an early start with an outing at the local trout pond. It was partly cloudy with the sun peeking through every now and then, temperature in the mid forties, about the same as the water.
The fishing wasn’t exactly great, the water was a little green from the recent rain and snowmelt runoff, but a great day to be out on the water, especially this early in the year.
Kayak fishing here in the PacNW is a unique experience; rugged, beautiful and unpredictable.
The fish weren’t exactly jumping in the kayak and I didn’t want to waste any of a great day, so I headed back to the ranch, parked the fishing gear and headed out on the mountain bike. I just took a little ride around the neighborhood, first passing by Mt. Hood off in the distance……
…..then headed around the mountain on an old logging road…….
…..for a view of Mt. Adams.
Up another one of the local mountain peaks and back down to the main road.
Back around the south side of the mountain as the sun disappeared into a bank of clouds.
Not a bad day for the middle of winter.
Wow those are some beautiful pics! I thought kayak fishing in Texas was cool, but dang I want to come up there now!
Bring your warm clothes or at least wait until summer. I have friends in Texas, I hope to try the kayak fishing there soon.
