One (nice) Day At A Time

It was raining and snowing yesterday and the same is predicted for tomorrow. Today was pretty nice; the absolute definition of “getting out between storms”. I headed over to my old stomping grounds in Mosier, OR and rode from booming downtown Mosier, up and over Seven Mile Hill, down into The Dalles and back along Old Route 30 up to Rowena overlook and back into Mosier.

State Road from Mosier up to the summit of Seven Mile Hill is almost all uphill, some of the sections are really long and steep. You can tell you are getting near the summit of Seven Mile Hill because it always seems to windy, no matter which direction the wind is blowing. You can see almost all of The Dalles and a long way up the Columbia River.

Bomber downhill into The Dalles down Seven Mile Hill and head west on SR 30; the “old” highway that runs on the south side of I 84. Thankfully, the wind was from the east and not blowing too hard. Some days, the west wind that can reach 50 mph funnels right up the Columbia Gorge and creates a headwind that is really difficult to pedal against. Mostly flat until you hit the Rowena crest, then up to the Rowena Scenic Overlook.

From Rowena, it’s mostly downhill and flat back into Mosier. A little over thirty miles, lots of climbing and some pretty cool downhills.
Tomorrow, the only question is rain or snow?
