The grass is brown and the days are mostly sunny, but there is no doubt that change is in the air. The days are shorter, nights cooler and the leaves have begun to turn from green to yellow. Even as the smoke from late summer wildfires hangs in the air, summer is quickly coming to an end.
The sun is getting lower in the daytime sky, the forest is getting darker and the shadows are longer
Places exposed to the long summer days of hot sunshine are brown and dry
The deep forest that blocks the sunshine year round is always dark and cool
For a few more weeks there will still be the summertime combination of brown and green
Once the autumn rains start to fall and new snow begins to cover the higher mountains, everything will return to deep, dark green
Changes.
