Above It All

Another wonderful sunny day here in the Pacific Northwest; depending on where you were and the time of day. This morning brought blue skies and sun, so I loaded the bike into the truck to ride someplace different. As I descended into the valley from the hilltop rancho, things got a little bit foggy.

The cattle didn’t seem to mind, but I knew the sun was shining above the fog, so hang a U-turn and back up the hill and back into the sun. Headed out on the local bike trail, sure enough, the valley below was socked in. Pretty spectacular sight with the fog reaching up the side valleys.

Even though the weather is unseasonably warm and the sun is shining, it’s still the middle of winter. The sun is low in the sky, even during the middle of the day, and the dense forest is pretty dark.

By the time I rode around to the south side of the mountain, the fog had cleared out and you could see the river below and Mt. Hood off in the distance.

As the day went on, “horsetail” cirrus clouds appeared, meaning there might be a change in the weather. A short time later, the clouds rolled in and that was all she wrote for the blue sky and sunshine.

Hoping the nice weather continues…….
