Back On The Road Again

The run on nice weather that allowed us to get out and ride our mountain bikes has kind of ended. “Kind of” because the “normal” weather for this time of year(if there is such a thing as normal weather in the PacNW), which would be rain, snow and cold, has not fully returned, but some relatively light rain has been falling and that means the end of riding on the local trails. You probably could ride a mountain bike if you wanted to ruin the trails and spend an hour or so cleaning the mud off your bike, but we don’t want to do that so we’ll stick to riding the road bikes until it dries up a little more.
So for the past few days, we’ve been riding the local roads. There’s a lot of hills around here, it is the Cascade Mountains after all, so you get a pretty good workout no matter where you go.

Wet Mossy Road

Just because it’s not raining, that does not mean it’s not wet. Low humidity is rare around here, especially in the winter. There is always some degree of moisture in the environment, at least until about July or August. Some places never completely dry out until summer, like this road that has moss growing on it

Moss on the road

This can make for some exciting bike riding, especially with skinny road bike tires. I run 700x23c tires to fit under the fenders of my bike, 700x25c will not fit with the fenders, so that’s a fairly skinny tire. Just don’t hit the brakes.
Looks like one more day of nice weather, then more rain, then maybe a nice weekend. Never know around here.
