Everyone is pretty much aware of the terrible earthquake in Japan by now, our thoughts are with our Japanese friends and their families. Devastation on this scale has rarely been seen in modern history. This is such a huge event, as I am typing this blog entry, small tsunami surges are coming ashore in Washington and Oregon. Nothing like the 9-10 meter waves that came ashore near Sendai, Japan yesterday, but this event has reached all the way across the Pacific Ocean.
There is a uniquely Japanese word; gaman, it means to have patience and endurance, to persevere, to “suck it up” and “tough it out”. The Japanese people will need all the gaman they can muster to recover from this disastrous earthquake and tsunami.
