The 2011 bike riding season has begun! Thanks to the unusually warm and surprisingly dry weather here in the PacNW, I was able to get out for a quick ride before a rainstorm blows in. The weather here in Washington has been unseasonably warm and rainy, usually January is a snowy, cold time of year. A couple days of dry weather following a week of solid rain found dry roads and even a bit of blue sky!
The first bike ride of 2011 comes almost a month earlier than last year. Last year, the bike riding season got underway about the same time I got kicked out of Mt. Hood Meadows, this year, with no season pass, bike season starts a little earlier.
Although the roads were dry and the sun was out, it wasn’t super warm; about 45 degrees with a bit of a wind chill. The sky was blue at the start of the ride, but an hour later, the skies turned gray and the temperature dropped a few degrees. Still plenty of snow to be found on the side of the road. Still too wet and muddy for the mountain bike. Expecting rain tonight and tomorrow, then a stretch of dry days, so the mountain bike season may be starting soon as well.
