The record breaking late summer heat wave is over and we’ve had some great kayak fishing for largemouth bass on the Colorado River. It will start getting windy here soon so we don’t want to waste a single day of kayak fishing.
It’s cooler, but still 75° before dawn on it’s way to about 100°, so we’re out there early. The fishing at night has not been so hot, but just before dawn I had some success.
Getting a decent fish before the sun comes up is a great way to start the kayak fishing day. The rest of the day is bonus time.
Before we came out fishing, we had to replenish the supply of custom grubs. They definitely do the job for the largemouth bass around here, but they get chewed up. Hopefully, these will last a while.
Back on the water, the fishing was good just before sunrise.
Another day of perfect kayak fishing conditions.
The bass weren’t huge, but there was plenty of kayak fishing action.
As the sun rises in the desert sky, the fishing seems to slow a bit or die off completely. It’s still pretty hot so unless the fishing is really good, we are off the water by noon.
There is definitely more great kayak fishing coming up, so check back soon.
