It’s just about our last chance and we lucked out with some great kayak fishing action on the Colorado River for largemouth bass. We are running out of time and each day of fishing is more valuable. The wind was coming up quickly in the late morning, so it was an early start every morning.

The largemouth bass fishing is not very good here at night. That may not be a bad thing. You would probably be eaten alive by mosquitoes. I was stoked to have the big largemouth bass come out to play so early in the morning.

The mosquitoes were like an Alfred Hitchcock movie, but the early morning fishing here was much better than usual.

It makes it easy to get up at 0330 and paddle a few miles upstream in the dark when the result is a big Colorado River largemouth bass.

I did not catch a large quantity of fish, but the largemouth bass I did catch were all good sized fish. Hardly any dinks.

Perfect kayak fishing conditions in the morning, windy by noon.

The smaller bass did a lot of jumping and hook spitting. The big fish usually headed for the bottom or the riverside bushes.

One day was overcast, the other two days were clear and sunny. Hot and getting hotter.

I caught a few really nice largemouth bass. Some of the bigger fish were on the line for more than two minutes.

Every spot has that perfect day that keeps you coming back the rest of the time.

I caught a few really nice fish in this three day stretch of great kayak fishing. Now famous on the internet and all returned to the river to fight another day.

Every day after fishing we stumble back to the campsite in the near 100°F heat. Charge all the batteries and get ready to go for an early start again tomorrow.
