Great Local Trail Ride

Many years ago, people left Missouri in covered wagons and wound up in this general vicinity. Some of the trails they built are still around, like the one I went riding on yesterday. I’ve always admired the toughness of the American pioneers, I mean they basically walked across a couple mountain ranges, a desert or two and everything in between to settle here in the Pacific Northwest. To be able to ride a bike on the same trail the pioneers used is pretty cool.

Parts of the trail wind though stands of white oak trees, not that many of those around any more.

Oak Lined Trail

Some of the trail is cut into the side of a steep cliff. You definitely want to stay on the trail here, it’s at least a five hundred foot drop.

Cliffside Singletrack

There are spectacular views of Mt. Hood, but it’s a pretty good idea to stop if you want to have a look. You can see in the photo below how steep the cliff is and how narrow the trail is.

So, thanks to the local pioneers who built this trail, it’s an honor to ride it.

Great View

It looks like the weather is going to stay decent, so the riding will continue…..
