The first real winter storm has hit the area bringing cold, rain and snow to most of the western part of the state. Looks like the great late season mountain biking is coming to an end. Still managed to get out in the woods in the morning before the storm front moved in about 1:30 in the afternoon and it started to rain.
In the morning; the sun was out but it was cold; in the low forties. The early day sun barely penetrated the dense forest.
The trails were covered with leaves that hid wet roots and rocks.
There were a few other riders on the trails with the same frame of mind; today could be the last mint ride for some time. Any riding from here on in will include mud and cold with scattered rain and snow showers. Most of the time it was empty singletrack.
Tried to hit all the fun downhill trails as the sun disappeared into the clouds of the approaching storm.
The local mushrooms were making a final appearance before it gets too cold.
The last bit of downhill singletrack went by as the rain started to fall in earnest.
One last look around in the deepest part of the forest; even moderate rain barely filters through the trees.
We’ll see what this latest storm brings. Maybe we will be able to sneak out for a bike ride between showers; maybe we will be snowboarding next week.
