Sun, Rain, Bike Racing

Today was the Prologue of the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic stage race. It was a pretty nice day; sunny, cool and windy, pretty typical for around here. The Prologue was held on a road that is just about a mile or so from my house so I rode down there with my camera gear to shoot a few photos. It was a pretty short time trial, only three miles or so, mostly flat or downhill until you get to the end, then it kicks up a bit. I think the uphill at the end caught a few of the racers by surprise, some of them were working pretty hard and I saw a couple riders in the small chainring, something you don’t see in a short time trial very often.
Like I said; it was sunny most of the day, until the race started. The clouds got thicker and thicker as the race went on, by the time the Pro Men had started, you could see a storm coming over the mountains and across the Hood River Valley.

Racing The Storm 6-2-11

You can see the storm coming in the background of the photo. Ten minutes after the picture was taken is was pouring down rain. Supposed to be near eighty degrees by Saturday when the racers tackle Mt. Hood, they will be getting their money’s worth, that’s for sure.
So I get soaked riding my bike home from the race and what do I see coming up the driveway?

Double Rainbow 6-2-11

No pot of gold though.
I will try and have the photos of the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic Prologue on the WatermanAtWork website as soon as possible. I don’t know if I will get up into the mountains to shoot photos there, but I hope I can make the Criterium in Hood River on Saturday.
