After a couple days of wind, we were back on the water for more kayak fishing action on the Colorado River. Our luck has been pretty good for a change, and we’re hoping it will continue.
As usual, we were out there before the crack of dawn to take advantage of the calm wind and any largemouth bass that were early risers. Lucky for me, there were a couple fish looking for an early breakfast.
There was a lot of kayak fishing action.
I caught a couple small ones, not too many. Most of the fish were good sized largemouth bass.
The conditions were perfect for kayak fishing. It’s starting to get hot in the desert, but still relatively cool at night and not unbearably hot. Most important, no desert wind.
The conditions stayed the same for the next two days and we got to do a lot of great kayak fishing for largemouth bass.
In this three day run of kayak fishing, I caught a lot of bigger bass, but no huge lunkers. Not that I’m complaining.
We were still catching plenty of bass, but on the second day, the fishing was not quite as good as the day before. The water level was dropping, but not too much. It still may have affected the fishing.
By the third day, the kayak fishing for largemouth bass was noticeably slower than the previous two days. We were still catching fish, but we had to work a lot harder. Plenty of paddling for everybody.
There were still fish willing to bite.
One last largemouth bass and it was time to call an end to three great days of kayak fishing action.
This is probably our last time fishing here this season. We can’t help but wonder if we will be able to fish here next year and beyond.
Fishing may be finished here, but we’re not done yet. We’ll be moving to another spot where we’ve had pretty good luck in the past and we will close out the 2023-24 winter kayak fishing season there. Plenty more kayak fishing action coming up!
