I finally got a chance to get out on my mountain bike and check out the local trails. I was super stoked to find trails that I’m sure are not available to the general public; I’m afraid I can’t tell you where they are unless you go with me for a ride. You’ll have to swear to not tell anybody, which is about the same thing I reckon. Sorry, locals only.
Good news is that my local turnoff takes you to the “Snowden Crossing”. Not only is there a fantastic view here, but if you go one way, you wind up on a place known as “Hospital Hill”; a great matrix of single track provided by one of the local ranchers who allows bikers to ride on the property as long as they show proper courtesy. Not much to ask to ride these unreal trails.
If you go the other way, you will be on the longer trail to the “Syncline”; amazing natural terrain that is popular with mountain bikers. The views are amazing, it is great singletrack. This has got to be some of the best mountain bike riding in the country.
I am so stoked to live in a place where I can walk out my front door and ride to some of the best bike riding anywhere. Come to White Salmon and ride these great trails. All you have to do is not be an idiot, don’t bring your dogs when the property owner has his cattle out and you will have a mountain bike experience you won’t soon forget. Have a cold one at Everybodys Brewing downtown to put the cap on a great day.
